A Cleveland Fence Company with a Reputation for Excellence

R&T Fence has installed and repaired fences across Northeast Ohio for more than 36 years, and Cleveland and Cuyahoga County communities, including Lakewood, Parma, Parma Heights, Strongsville, Westlake, and Shaker Heights, have been part of that territory for most of it.

We're not a franchise, and we don't send out subcontractors. The same crew that walks your property for an estimate is the crew that shows up to build. That's how we operate: one crew, working residential and commercial jobs side by side, backed by material and workmanship warranties on everything we install.

Fence Types We Install in Cleveland

We install and repair five fence types across Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Which one fits your property depends on your budget, how much privacy you want, and how much upkeep you're willing to take on.

Wood Fence

Wood fence is a common choice in Cleveland's older neighborhoods, where a traditional board- or picket-style fits the existing homes. Our wood fences are pressure-treated pine, built board-on-board, shadowbox, or picket style, and matched to an existing gate or structure when needed.

Chain Link Fence

Chain link marks a boundary without the cost of a solid privacy fence, and we install it on both homes and commercial sites throughout Cleveland. We use galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link in a range of heights and gauges, including the all-black commercial-grade style behind a recent fuel tank security project for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Cleveland.

Vinyl Fence

Vinyl fence gives homeowners the look of painted wood without the recurring maintenance. Northeast Ohio winters are hard on thin, big-box vinyl, cracking and yellowing panels within a few years. Ours is made to eliminate it.

Aluminum Fence

Aluminum fence holds up well through Cleveland's freeze-thaw winters without rusting the way uncoated steel can. It skips the rust entirely, which is part of why it holds up so well in Cleveland.

Steel Fence

For Cleveland businesses along the city's industrial and freight corridors, steel gives more strength and security than aluminum, and it's what we recommend on sites with exposed boundaries or a higher security need

Commercial Fence Installation in Cleveland

Cleveland businesses and property managers install commercial fences for perimeter security, boundary lines, and code compliance, often on tighter timelines than residential jobs.

Commercial Wood

Cleveland's commercial wood requests tend to come from office parks and storefronts that need a boundary presentable enough to double as a design feature, not just a security line.

Commercial Chain Link

Commercial chain link is the go-to secure perimeter for warehouses and industrial sites throughout Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, mainly because it costs less than a solid fence to cover the same distance. Depending on local zoning, we can add a barbed wire top rail or slat privacy inserts.

Commercial Aluminum

Cleveland's medical facilities and retail properties often choose aluminum fence, since it holds a decorative perimeter with almost no maintenance while still reading as a legitimate commercial boundary.

Commercial Steel

Cleveland businesses with the highest security needs, industrial yards, equipment storage, and properties along the city's freight corridors are the customers we point toward steel. It's the most durable commercial fence we install.

We'll send a sales representative to your home or business in Cleveland to discuss your fencing needs and provide a free, no-obligation estimate.

Step 2 — Secure Your Spot

Timelines depend on fence style, material, and length. Some fences are finished in a day or two; others need up to a week to go from setting posts to completing the installation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cleveland Fence Installation

Do I need a permit to install a fence in Cleveland?

It depends on height and use. Fences over 6 feet need a permit, and any fence used as a pool barrier needs one regardless of height. Commercial and industrial fences need a permit, no matter the height. R&T Fence handles that filing as part of your installation once your project is scheduled.

How tall can my fence be in Cleveland?

Front-yard and side-street-yard fences are limited to 4 feet and must be at least half open. One exception: a side-street-yard fence set back at least 4 feet from the property line can reach 6 feet and be solid or open. Rear yards and interior side yards allow up to 6 feet, solid or open.

Do Cuyahoga County suburbs like Parma or Lakewood have different rules than Cleveland?

Yes. Parma, Lakewood, Strongsville, Westlake, and the other suburbs we serve each run their own building department and zoning code. Parma, for example, won't allow a corner-lot fence to sit closer to the street than the house itself. We confirm the specific rule for your address before filing any permit.

Will my HOA affect my fence project?

Many neighborhoods in Cuyahoga County suburbs have an HOA with its own rules on materials, height, or color, on top of city zoning. We ask about HOA requirements during your estimate so the fence we design clears both the city and the association.

How much does a fence cost in Cleveland?

Cost depends on material, fence length, number of gates, and terrain, all of which vary from property to property. Rather than publish a flat rate that wouldn't hold up across Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, we provide a free, no-obligation estimate at your property.

How long does installation take?

Most residential fences are finished in a day or two once materials are on-site and posts are set. Larger commercial jobs, like a multi-gate perimeter or a fence mounted to existing concrete, can take longer.
